Welcome to Tasty Tuesday – the week of Thanksgiving even!
And what says Thanksgiving like Pizza!
Ok – lots of things do. But today I got Pizza..
My husband loves it, my son loves it, it wins
on all counts. Plus it is pretty quick to make it
from scratch. It’s a win win! Or if you are a fan of
The Office, it’s a win win win!
Once again I am reaching for my Pioneer Woman
cookbook for a recipe. You simply must
go buy this Here. Go ahead, I’ll wait………
Unless of course you are getting it
for Christmas – you know who you are!
So here is the Pizza Crust recipe from page 108-
Once again, not a great picture – there is not much
natural lighting in my house. My future blog
plans include moving to a location without so many pine
trees in the yard – and so many cloudy days -
My current house is, however, a perfect setting for a vampire movie..hmmmm
But I digress.
You start out with yeast. 1 teaspoon to be exact. 1/2 package to
be less exact. Put the yeast in a bowl with
1 1/2 cups warm water.
Then mix 4 cups all-purpose flour and 1 teaspoon salt in a bowl
I discovered on my last recipe that there are different types of flour.
Good to know..
Now, with an electric mixer, drizzle 1/3 cup Extra
Virgin Olive Oil into the flour mixture.

I have to say this part did not work well for me.
I don’t have one of those super duper mixers,
I just have a little 9.99 Kmart special hand mixer
(possible gift alert) note to self, have husband
read blog..
So I pulled off my rings and went all in – that’s right,
I mixed it by hand. Cause thats’s the kind of gal I am. The kind
that takes life by the horns and .. what do you do with it then
anyway? And since when does life have horns? Is that supposed
to indicate the kind of life I have – one with horns? That sounds
either rustic or demonic – and I like neither one..
On a different note – did you know digressing is good for the soul?
After you incorporate the oil into the flour, stir the water/yeast mixture
and add it into the bowl.
You can mix and knead your dough by hand. Or use
one of those big mixers if you have one. (Show off)
Here it is folks – 4 ingredients plus water- that’s it! And you can
take 1/2 of the dough out and put it in the freezer for another time,
or store it in the refrigerator for two days.
Now you just put a few more drops of EVOO in a bowl,
put the dough in there and turn it over to coat.
Then
cover it and put it in a warm place to rise.
I covered mine with a pretty napkin cause I am all that and a bag of chips all the kitchen
towels were in the laundry.
So after it has risen (around one hour) take it
out and roll it onto your pizza pan. Go ahead an use your
fingers to smooth it out.
It was around this time in the process I discovered I had no
pizza sauce. But that won’t stop raw dough fingered vampire girl!
(Sorry – I think I may need to get out more… maybe..)
I took some tomato sauce and added some (Lawry’s) seasoning salt
and some oregano and thyme and poof! Pizza sauce!
(It’s almost like I’m a super hero or something huh!)
Then I fried up some sausage (Jimmy Dean)
Put the sauce and meat on the pizza dough -
And then loaded that puppy up with cheese
Now bake in a 375 to 400 degree oven for about 11-12 min.
I barely got this picture taken before the devouring began!
Now I made this with what I had available, and knowing that my
teenage son likes plain pizza. There is no end to the toppings and
combination’s you could put on this crust. If I was having a
girls night I might just put Alfredo sauce, chicken, and garlic on it.
Hey – doesn’t garlic keep away vampires?
So have fun with it – and have a happy Tasty Tuesday –
thanks for stopping by.

I really need to get over my fear of active dry yeast.

My guess is Melissa is getting the cookbook for Christmas.
    Am I right?

Yummo…your pizza's look fabulous! I make my own pizza's also, but I use the pre-made pizza crust. Frankly, yours looks way better! Thanks for sharing.
