Tasty Tuesday – Chocolate Chip Cookies
I am a self-professed chocoholic. I crave it and it satisfies me. There, now you know.
I have put myself out there and I feel better..
I got this cookie recipe 25 years ago from my sister-in-law. Why she felt the need
to give it to a four year old I will never understand………..
I love these cookies, and I have discovered many ways to vary it over the years.
I will show you how I made them today, and then I will give you the original
recipe at the end also. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. Actually, maybe
I shouldn’t wish that on you! Here is the starting line-up. (I thought you might enjoy
a sports analegy what with the big game coming up next weekend. Wait till you see
the Super Bowl Nacho recipe I am giving you next Tuesday!)
I started with mixing the butter and sugars. 1 cup butter – 1 cup sugar-and 1 cup brown sugar.
Add 2 eggs and 1 teaspoon vanilla
Mix well
Now you mix together in a separate bowl
2 1/2 cups flour – 1 teaspoon baking soda -1 teaspoon salt
Here is where I add some stuff.
I put in 1/2 cup oatmeal that I had ground up in my Magic Bullet.
And I also added 1/4 cup wheat germ. Cause I like to sneak healthy stuff into my family.
And the last thing I threw in was a teaspoon of cinnamon. I am sure some of
you already do this, but for those who don’t – it adds a great flavor.
Now mix the dry ingredients with the wet – I don’t use a mixer for this as it is kind
of thick and I just have a little hand held one.
Now you add a bag of chocolate chips. I use milk chocolate because I have a pretty serious
sweet tooth, but semi-sweet work just as well. I looked at the bag so I could be sure it was
the 12 oz. one and found out it was 11.5 oz. Has anyone else noticed that they keep charging
us more money for less food???
At this point I usually just want to get a big spoon and take the bowl into the family room
and watch an old movie as I eat my way through 14,000 calories…. but I refrain.
One side note – I usually wash my hands well and stick them right in the bowl to
get everything mixed together – I used less fat this time (1 cup of butter is less? Yes!) so the dough is a
little bit dryer and needs to be worked together more. I suppose there are people that will not want to
eat these at my house again knowing that I have stuck my hands in them, but oh well – more for me!
I use my nifty melon baller to scoop out the cookies and put them on the cookie sheet.
I don’t think I have ever used it for melons.
Pop those babies into a 375 degree oven for 8 to 10 minutes. Plenty of time to do a round of
8 minute abs while you are waiting. At least that’s what I always do..
Sorry – I know that last picture was just mean – what with the melting chocolate and the buttery cookie…
So – off they go to the cookie jar – where they are oh so safe – cause no one thinks to look in there -
Here is the original recipe – I hope you enjoy it!
And once again – thanks for stopping by the Little (Chocolate) Brown House
