Frugal Friday – Thrifty Cloche
I am reposting this project to enter the DIY club – go here to see!

Cloche:
“A bell-shaped metal or glass cover placed over a plate to keep
food warm or fresh.”
I decided I wanted some of these to go with my pedestal plates that I am making
As I started looking in stores and online for them, I discovered they are hard to
find in my area stores, and they are kind of spendy online. So I decided to try
my hand at making some myself. I went out shopping for a glass bowl with no
writing on the bottom – not as easy to find as you might think!
I was able to find someat my local Kmart – they are Martha Stewart brand
and were $1.79 each
- I got the last two they had! Then I got a couple of drawer pulls from
my Home Depot store. And lastly
I pulled out my trusty Gorilla Glue Epoxy and I was all set!

The epoxy come out from two tubes and you mix it yourself
before you apply it. And, just a warning – it smells like skunk.
No really – trust me. The dog ran and hid under the table. I had
to open the back door and air the place out. But by golly
the stuff holds things together, it dries clear, (a must for this project)
and once it dries there is no lingering smell. Which I am
sure will make the recipients of these happy!
Now comes the tricky part. It needs to dry for 2 hours and it needs
to be clamped together. That doesn’t work well for this project.
So – I used the tool that men have said takes care of all
problems for decades – duct tape..

Hey – it ain’t fancy but it gets the job done!
So after two hours I removed the tape and had a very cute little
cloche that cost under $5.00 to make – I was so excited!

Isn’t it just too adorable!!

Hope you enjoyed this – send me a picture if you end up making one yourself!

Hmm, it sounds as though you’re making multiple of these? As in one for you and one to give to your daughter?

I have been scouring the thrift for a bowl, a cheese plate, anything to make a cloche! Thanks so much for solving the bowl dilemma! Martha Stewart does it again. K-Mart is on my way home from work too. Terrible! I just swore up and down to the hubs that I was *done* with Christmas crafting!

This is a great idea. Love it. You can also use large curvy vases for cloches. I too have found cloches a bit pricey. Thanks for the tutorial.

I love your Cloche. I love being creative and finding a way to make something into a project you can love and others can be inspired to re-create.
Thanks for posting to the party.
