Are you kidding me?? These brownies are made with what!!

I’m sure you’ve seen them around – the black bean brownies recipes.

The ones that use a can of black beans (run through the blender)

in the recipe, lowering the calories and raising the nutrition level. Sounded a little

strange to me, but I was intrigued by the idea, especially since I have been on Weight Watchers the last couple of weeks, and trying to stay away from chocolate.

(That sentence hardly portrays the scope of removing chocolate from my daily life)

I have been grieved, nay, anguished by the lack of it.

I have allowed myself a nibble here and there, but not near the dose I had become used to.

My friend  was telling me that she had made some of the Black Bean Brownies,

and thought they weren’t too bad. So I  thought, maybe those are a way to  have

my chocolate fix without going way overboard in points for the day!

So I went searching for a recipe.

I found one online that also happened to be gluten free.

As my Mom is allergic to gluten,I decided to try them!

You can see the recipe at Finding Joy In My Kitchen

I changed up the recipe and put it into my Weight Watchers recipe builder to get to the lowest

amount of points that still looked edible! To be honest – I didn’t have terribly

high hopes as I was making them, but boy howdy did the end result blow me away!!

So here is my recipe if you would like to try it! The brownies come out to 2 points if you cut

them into 18 squares. I cut them into 24 squares – which makes

them one point each – score!! I think next time I make them I will add a little

flour to them and see how they turn out, I will let you know!

Here are the normal ingredients..

And here is the “Are you kidding me??” part..

I started by draining the beans, rinsing them in the can, and then adding fresh water to them.

I didn’t fill the can all the way up with water, just about 2/3rd full. Then I poured it all into the

blender and pureed it. It looked like chocolate pudding,

But it smelled like beans – it was a little strange! But I persevered!

Then add to the beans:

2 eggs

1 1/2 Tbls. Olive Oil

Then mix the dry ingredients together in a separate bowl.

3/4 cups sugar

1/2 tsp. baking powder

1tsp. vanilla

1/4 cup cocoa

Mix the dry and wet ingredients together -

After it is mixed, add 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips.

These up the calorie/point numbers a bit – but it was well worth it!

Then pour it all into a 8×8 inch square baking pan, and put it into a 350 oven for 35 min.

*****Please note*****

I have an old oven, and it does not heat evenly.

You should check yours often to make sure they don’t over bake.

When they are ready they will

pull away from the edges, and a toothpick inserted in center

will come out clean. They should be moist, but not gooey.

I allowed mine to cool for maybe 10 minutes before I

cut into them to try one! My husband can attest to the surprised

look on my face when I popped one into my mouth   -   They were moist and

melting with chocolate – no taste of bean whatsoever!

Then I decided to top them with some strawberries, shaved chocolate,  and Fat Free Cool Whip -

I have to say it was a near religious experience!! And low calorie to boot!

I dare you to try them! You might be able to slip some nutrition

into your family without them even knowing it!

I kept mine in the refrigerator

and dipped into them all week! And the great thing is I didn’t even

have to feel guilty about it! I happen to like them best warmed

up, but try for yourself and see what you think

Thanks for stopping by – hope you come back soon!

And be sure to check out these great blog parties I am linking up to!

Okay – you’ve almost got me convinced to give it a try! I’ll add a can of black beans to the grocery list. Brownie for 1 or 2 WW points that taste good are something I need to try! :)

Gotta try these! If only I had read this yesterday! It would have saved me from the terrible WW points massacre I experienced while baking chocolate cupcakes!! Better day today, especially now that I have this recipe to give me comfort that I can enjoy chocolate sensibly!! Thanks!

AWESOME!! So glad that you tried them. We love our recipe — my mother-in-law enjoys moist, GF brownies! And, my father-in-law (who does not eat beans) told me they were “pretty good”. !!

By the way… I made your minestrone soup last week… oh, my goodness. It’s our new favorite :) Thanks.

Yum! It looks like you found yourself a keeper! I’ve been wanting to make the bean brownies for quite some time. Beans add such moisture to baked goods that I’ve also thrown around the idea of adding white beans to banana bread! – http://www.delightfulcountrycookin.com

This is so funny! It just occurred to me that in the 60s and 70s they used to put marijuana in brownies – I have had so many hits on this post (no pun intended!) it makes me wonder if they were looking for a different kind of satisfying brownie!! Hmmmmm…!!

These ARE great, so healthy! I made them and the family had no idea. Score! If you are missing your chocolate, I totally recommend going to vitalicious and getting some triple chunk chocolate vitatops. They are 100 calories, packed with protein and fiber and DELICIOUS! They are 2 oz. which is more than a lot of bars and really, they are chocolatey and good! The other chocolate ones are good too but the Triple Chocolate ones are the best. You won’t be sorry, trust me! You can often go to HungryGirl.com for coupons otherwise email me and I probably have a coupon for 10% off or free shipping or something.

Oh my! I am trying not to laugh and wake the children. I have friends who make the BB brownies. One just took them as a snack to her son’s class at school. They were a hit! I have not tried them. Yet.
