Tasty Tuesday – Death by Chocolate
I am going out of town for a couple of days, and was unable to
do my usual Tasty Tuesday post. I am re-posting one from February.
It makes one serving and is made in the microwave, so it is
perfect for those summer nights after the kids are in bed when you are watching
that scary movie.. or funny movie.. or reading.. it is pretty much good
no matter what you are doing! Hey – it is chocolate!
Enjoy!
Ok – maybe not death.. But definitely a coma-like state of bliss.
So I got this recipe from my friend Jen. Who is pregnant. 9 and 3/4 months pregnant..
She says it satisfies the ultimate chocolate craving, and I am inclined to believe her.
Then when I read the recipe and saw it included coffee – I knew I was in deep… real deep..
So I decided to make some today – simply to try it out for my blogging friends.
No other reason.. I swear. Everything I do – I do it for you…(name that song!)
Here are the ingredients. The great thing about this recipe is that it only
makes one serving. Why is that great? Besides the fact that it means less to sneak
out and eat at night when the kids are in bed, it also means you can have it during
the afternoon when you are alone and there is no evidence it ever existed….
This becomes important when I am explaining to my husband that I have no
idea why I can’t drop that extra 4 pounds..
These are the ingredients. All you need in addition to them is a mug and a spoon!
I choose one of my larger mugs – so that I would have room for toppings!
Into the mug you put
1 egg
1 Tbl. oil
3 Tbl. sugar
1 Tbl. flour
dash vanilla
1 teaspoon instant coffee
3 Tbl. cocoa
Mix these together in mug and put mug in microwave.
Then take mug out of microwave and wash microwave before taking
picture of said mug in it.
It is a proven fact that Tasty Tuesday’s help keep my
kitchen clean..
Cook in microwave for 1 and 1/2 minutes – it seems like a long time when you are craving..
Jen suggests some toppings – I tried chocolate chips.
Then I tried a Tablespoon of ice cream.. just testing it for you guys!
The cake is spongy and chocolate coffee-y. I actually could only eat half of
it. And I never imagined myself saying that sentence with a food that included
chocolate – it doesn’t happen. I decided that you just couldn’t see it well
enough deep in that mug – so I moved it to a dish so you could really
get a feel for it! No thanks needed…..
I will post Jen’s recipe here – she told me I could! Let’s hope the chocolate/coffee
mixture in this get her labor going!! I did make one change – I only added 1 Tablespoon
oil and she calls for 2. Mine was wonderful, so if you want to eliminate a few
of the calories ( I know – why bother!) that is a way to do it.
Here is Jen’s recipe – enjoy and thanks for stopping by!

Grandma made this for the kids and I last year! I have had the recipe here but I never make it for my family anymore because it’s too much work to make 4 of these at one time!! But it’s perfect for single servings!

Very cool! That one of those great ones that you could give to someone as a gift. Put the dry ingredients in a baggy in the mug and give them a card that says what wet ingredients they need and that instructions to cook it!
Thanks for sharing!

This looks amazing and I hate that you shared it with me and my chubs.

You had me at “chocolate.” I’ve tried one of these cake-in-a-mug recipes, but it was like eating an old sponge. I’ll have to try this one; thanks!

I found your blog while blog-browsing, but I couldn’t help but comment on that amazing looking dessert. And since it only requires the microwave, it’s a college student’s dream.
Thanks for posting!
