Dollar Store Cupcake Stands

Finally! After two posts about the baby shower cupcake event going on at the Little Brown House, I am going to debut

as promised, my dollar store cupcake stand! I know you have all been awaiting this moment with bated breath..

Whatever that is..

Last year I entered the Dollar Store Contest and came up with a few decor items made

with dollar store purchases. One of them was my burner cover cake stands – you can see them here:

Dollar Store Cake Stand

As I was planning my daughters baby shower – I came up with the idea of making cupcakes:

I decided to update the dollar store cake stands and use them as cupcake stands – total cost around $3.50

I found some scrapbook paper I loved at Michaels

I traced around the top of the plate-

When I placed the paper circle on the top, I decided that I needed

to paint the plate so that I would have a clean finish

on the sides and in case any showed through on the top.

So we went outside for a couple of coats of Heaven’s own paint – Heirloom White..

It makes everything better.. really..

Ah – much nicer!

Now I put spray adhesive on the top of the plate, and placed the round paper on top of it.

Then I repeated the process with the next plate

And here is the finished product!

Very pretty indeed!

And the day I made them I got the cupcake toppers and covers I had ordered –

They matched so well!

I may have squealed a little bit!

I have been working on the cupcakes all week, and just finished frosting and filling them today-

So of course I had to dress up the stands for their photo shoot!

I ordered the personalized cupcake toppers and matching wrappers from Julie at

www.etsy.com/shop/alittlelollipoptree

I am so happy with them – I especially love the Welcome Baby Lydia Grace toppers!

So I am about ready to go with the baby shower this Saturday!

If you would like to see the recipes for the cupcakes – you can find them here:

Thanks so much for coming by! I am linking up with a few fun parties – go check them out!

Isn’t she beautiful!

Oh. My. Gosh. Get out!! These are so cool. I never, in a million years would have thought of this. I love it so much I’m going to go to the dollar store tomorrow. And then I will attempt to make some too. I like this because the burner covers give you so much flexibility when it comes to designing what you want the stands to look like. When you use the glass plates as stands, you can’t really customize them as easily. I really love this idea. Thanks for sharing. Btw, I found your blog through Cindy at My Romantic Home.

God Bless and have fun with the baby shower!

What a smart idea! I just love to see post about turning something cheap into a high dollar item. It’s one of those idea’s where you go “why didn’t I think of that”? It really is as cute as can be. And just think of what you can do for Halloween and Christmas!

    Have a Happy Weekend…Tracy :)

I love cake stands and have seen a few using plates, but I love this one. The burner cover makes the stand have a vintage feel to it. The addition of the pretty paper really make it special. The cupcake liners on the cupcakes takes the whole project way into the WOW zone.

If I wanted to make these so that I could wipe them down and use again, would modge podge on top of the paper be a safe, sturdy solution?

    Thanks so much!

I don’t think I saw this part posted and I didn’t see anybody else ask about them, but what did you use for the glass pieces in between each of the burner tops? They look like candle holders or sundae dishes but I wasn’t sure. Also, did you secure them with glue or something or just stack them? These are great!

What a cute idea only I am wondering that as the cupcakes get lifted off the upper tray won’t it tip over or did you glue the gass base to the underside somehow as you don’t mention that?

Have you ever considered about adding a little bit more than just your articles?
I mean, what you say is valuable and all.
But just imagine if you added some great pictures or video clips to
give your posts more, “pop”! Your content is excellent but with images and video clips,
this website could certainly be one of the best in its niche.
    Excellent blog!

The heat is emitted immediately unlike electric stoves that
take time to heat up and then allow the utensil to
heat. You are able to even turn stale bread into breadcrumbs for
lots of recipes. If mostly you are cooking dinner for your family
    – a 6 quart is probably your best bet.
