Coffee Sign

Two weeks ago my husband and I updated the backsplash in our kitchen by taking

down the dated wallpaper boarder, and replacing it with paintable beadboard wallpaper.

I will be doing a post on that this weekend.

Now that we had the nice white backsplash – I wanted to make some changes.

Oh, who am I kidding. I wanted to update the entire kitchen!

But I am hoping that will come soon…….

Baby steps… the story of my life..

So, I had a cabinet door that I got a few months ago from the

Habitat for Humanity Restore for around $1.50.

It was the perfect size and shape to go right behind the kitchen sink.

I pulled out my Silhouette machine to figure out what I wanted to put on the door.

Coffee is one of our favorite things – so I thought it might be fun to make a sign about that.

I wrote the word Coffee and the number 5, with one of the fonts that came with the Silhouette,

There are a lot to choose from!  Then I went to the online  Silhouette store and bought a coffee cup and

cent symbol for $0.79 each. They are usually $0.99, but are on sale right now.

I used the machine to cut those shapes out of white vinyl.

Then I got to work on the cabinet door.

Believe it or not, I had actually sanded it down at this point – Although it still looks pretty shiny!

I painted the board with two coats of a black satin enamel.

1st coat is shown here.

Then I positioned the vinyl on the door to figure out the position I wanted them in.

After I had it where I wanted it, I began to remove the paper backing.

I am always so excited to see how it looks!

After I had all the vinyl on, I decided I needed to do a little distressing of the wood.

I did that by hand with a medium gauge sandpaper.

I just hit all the raised edges and corners until I liked the way it looked.

Then I hung it up on the back splash -

Isn’t it so cute!!

I am so happy with it. I love the way the black pops out against the white beadboard.

I think it adds a little bit of nostalgia, shabbiness, and maybe French Country.

Thats a lot of bang for the buck huh!

I love the way you can see it when you come in our front door,

and that it carries on the Black and White theme from my hallway console.

I am really hoping I can convince my husband to let us paint the cabinets this summer.

If you are reading this honey….. love ya! Best hubby ever!

Hope you liked my fun coffee sign, you can go to the link below if you would like

to see the little bit of French Country I added to my backspash earlier this week -

Hi – visiting from Funky Junk Interiors. Love the sign! I’ve been thinking of getting a Cricut or Silhouette etc. but am still not sure what is the best / what I would use the most.
