Spring Mantel – White on White
There is just something that draws a person to decorating a mantel..
It is almost like the grown-up version of playing with Barbies.
Or perhaps it is more like accessorizing an outfit with
the perfect jewelry, belt, purse, etc.
Whatever the reason, I am always ready to change out my
mantel for the season. And I am calling this one my Spring
Mantel, (Sprantel) since we still had SNOW here until a week ago….
Not that I’m bitter..
I had been trying to decide what to do with my mantel, so last week
just for fun, I decided to try my Sunburst Mirror up there.
It got me thinking about what I could do.
I love my sunburst. But I think I really love it best at the end of my hallway -
(You can go here to see how I made it)
The Sunburst didn’t fit in well with the look of my living room.
I loved the shape of it above the mantel, I just needed something
more traditional. I decided to go looking for ceiling medalions.
I found one that I loved at Home Depot.
I glued a Dollar Store mirror into the hole in the center,
and popped it up on the wall!
I honestly can’t write one more word until I mention how much
I hate the hideous faux wood paneling behind my fireplace… It
will be dealt with soon – you can be sure of that..
I began to decorate my mantel around the medallion.
I wanted it to be primarily white.
It is interesting to me how white is so tied in with winter,
as in snow,
and yet it is also so appropriate in summer
as in sand, white cotton, etc.
I did add in a couple of pieces of blue for contrast.
My Mom’s old Blue Bell jar.
Her old wooden bowl that I “ruined” with paint…
And some of the antique books she has given me.
I took white spray paint to a couple of candle sticks.
And I didn’t even put candles on them…
I am so happy with it!
It just looks so fresh and bright and new!
Even though the only new thing is the medallion.
The little silver mirrors behind the books came
from the Dollar Store, everything else is re-purposed.
I am loving the white. Thinking about getting a white slipcover
for my couch for the summer. love the way the white contrasts with the
dark wood floor and wood furniture.
I added white to my buffet too. I tried to get a picture for you but the
setting sun was shining so strong on it you can’t see anything.
Of course I put it in anyway because I just love having the sunshine!
So, tell me what you think!
And what about you? Have you re-accessorized your mantel lately?
Tell me all about it!
And, as always, thanks so much for coming by -
I will be linking up with some parties – go check them out!
