The Little Brown House Goes To Camp…
We are home again after our road trip to Seattle.
The weather was absolutely gorgeous – the best they have had in Seattle in months.
Apparently it rains a lot there…..
We had a combined reason for the trip. On Saturday I was going to my first
blogging convention.. don’t laugh.. it is a real thing and they do have them!
Most of them take place far away from me, so I was very excited to find that
the SIT’S girls were bringing Bloggy Boot Camp to my neck of the woods.
If you have never been to their website,
you are really missing out. Here is a link – Thesitsgirls.com
We got in on Friday night, and checked in to our hotel.
I am trying to emulate Pioneer Woman with the hotel pictures..
I must say the hotel rooms her publishers give her on her book tours are slightly nicer than ours…
Our first order of business was food. Of course..
We headed out with for one of our favorite places that is not available in our area.
Yum….. simple but oh so good!
I go in and buy 369 cinnamon crunch bagels, which I believe is what they
serve for breakfast in heaven… pretty darn sure of that.. and at a Pottery Barn table even.
Anyway – then we headed back to the hotel because I had to get up
early for Bloggy Boot Camp – hereafter referred to as BBC.
I was so excited I could hardly sleep- and you all know I need my beauty sleep.
I still hadn’t decided what I was going to wear. You may remember I
asked for your votes last week in this post. Because it is obviously my
biggest decision of the year.. not that I’m indecisive.. at least I don’t think I am.
Not Your G-Ma’s Wardrobe BBC edition
Well, I brought 3 different outfits to choose from, and 4 pair of shoes..
Excessive? Of course not! Hello- remember who we are talking about here!
I ended up wearing the one that got the most votes – I am so smart like that..
I was a little worried it might look unprofessional because of the light wash jeans.
After all, this was my first big girl blogger convention… I had to make a good impression..
But by golly – it got the most votes..
That morning my son and husband took off for Pike Street Market, the underground
Seattle tour, and a Mariners game… surprisingly they didn’t want to go to Bloggers Camp.
So, I armed myself with my little hotel/convention center map, and took off for an event
where I would’t know anyone..where I would have to sit next to complete strangers…..
And as we all know, many ax murderers started out as bloggers..
Come to think of it, why was it called Boot Camp? I had bad memories of summer camp as
a child. Was everyone going to burst into song if I put my elbows on the table?
Would the food be served in metal trays. And would I have to wash said trays?
And then spend the rest of the day with diarrhea? Which also had a camp song, by the way..
Would we have to exercise? Because I certainly wasn’t wearing the shoes for that.
And I only had one small can of hairspray with me..not nearly enough to maintain Nashville hair..
Ok – here is the room.. deep breath, I can do this…
Hey, maybe there will be an earthquake and the electricity will go out!
They would have to cancel it then right? Bloggers without electricity – that
sounds like a bad horror movie…
What if everyone jumps up and does a Flash Mob thing and I am the
only one who doesn’t know the dance? That is one of my deepest fears……
Yep, that’s me… guess I really have to do this.
I can be incredibly shy in situations like this…. stop laughing ..
I am a huge show off and attention grabber when I am with people
I know. I have no problem sharing personal things about myself on
my blog. I have been a speaker in front of large groups of women
numerous times… But put me in a room with a group of women I
don’t know, in an arena I am not secure in yet (blogging). And I clam
up and look like an idiot.. one on one with strangers is hard for me.
The thing I most wanted to do was run out and jump in the car with
my son and husband and go spend the day having fun in Seattle…
What the heck was I thinking coming to a blogging convention??
I was ready to break out into hives and go hide in the bathroom..
I am an amateur with no idea of what I am doing!!
Maybe if I just take a few pictures everyone will think I really came..
I had the name tag for proof after all… I could lock myself in the hotel
room, order room service, and watch movies all day – no one needs to know…
I will give you the rest of the story tomorrow –
Maybe..

What do you mean “maybe”??? Oh no, they didn’t do the flash mob thing, did they? ; ) You are too funny Sharyl. I saw a commercial {I think it was a show that showcased the funniest commercials} and one guy was too early and he started to do the flash mob dance before everyone else. It was very funny. I think it was for a cell phone commercial. Apparently, he didn’t get the text that the time was moved! So glad you had nice weather and I want to see the rest of those pics!

I saw you in that darling outfit but didn’t get a chance to meet you. I was just as nervous I think…:) Very intimidating going to one of these by ourselves! I had so much fun and so glad I went. I will be trying to create my post later today!
Happy Monday!

Thank you for sharing your fears! It’s good to know there’s someone else who goes through the same things I go through when I’m entering a room full of strangers…it surprises those who know me well that I’m shy in groups like that. Put me in front to speak, no problem, but put me at a table where we have to make conversation? Scares the wits out of me. It’s like going back to the first day of school after moving to a new town when you don’t know anyone…
