Ocean Inspired Bed Makeover

Some of you may remember I did a post where I was contemplating

freshening up my bedroom for the summer by bringing

in some new bedding that featured more white.

White After Memorial Day

The above collage shows some of my inspiration photo’s from Pinterest.

(If you haven’t checked out Pinterest yet, go ask me for an invite!)

In my post I mentioned my upcoming trip to Seattle and visit to Ikea

where I hoped to make some purchases for my bed makeover.

Well, if you read my post The Little Brown House Goes To Camp 2,

you know that I became a little overwhelmed there, and spent lots of money!

Something makes me think that is a common occurrence in that place…

Consequently,  the only thing I brought home for my bedroom was a throw!

So, I rolled up my sleeves and set about figuring out how I could get the look I wanted

by using things I already had, or could make very inexpensively.

Re-purposing… it has a ring to it doesn’t it?

I am going to show you the reveal of the room now, and do a couple of tutorials

of what I made in future posts. I know, I am driving you nuts aren’t I….

Hopefully you will still want to come back!

The picture on the left shows my inspiration colors.

I wanted to use all shades of white, off-white, and sand.

Kind of like the variety of shades you would find on the beach.

The picture on the right is the combination of colors I used.

At the very top of the right hand picture, you can see the fabric in the

pillowcases that incorporated the white, sand, and Caribbean blue I used.

That blue not only calls my name, it reaches out and grabs me and won’t let go!

Are you loving the freshness as much as I am yet?

Don’t you want to just burrow in with a good book and stay awhile?

The only thing I bought (aside from the Ikea throw) was the sheets.

I made the bed skirt, this blue pillow, and the white shams from repurposed items.

(I did spend a little on the shams, but not much!)

There is still a bit more I want to do, but right now I just want to enjoy

this fresh new look. Here is a before and after for you -

Looks like summer now! And I am ready for some warm lazy days -

What about you?

It does have a beachy, cottage look to it, Sharyl! I also like the casualness to it, which is perfect for Summer. I could see lazing about with a good book or magazine and then taking a nap! Love the colors and it looks like you achieved what you set out to do here.

I like the colors. I also like the bird cage on the basket – very nice and warm touch to the decor. What about something on the tables next to the bed – more blue accessories maybe.

Are you doing anything to the lamps? You could use some twine and make a little tassel for each lamp shade and a couple of shells to emphasize the beach look.

I’m fairly new to your blog and have been looking at old posts, and oh my, this is so inspiring! I have a guest bedroom that is ‘beach inspired’, but needs some extra oomph — this has given me the ideas I need to take it to the next level. :-)

P.S. Could you please send me an invitation to Pinterest?
