Anatomy Of A Family..
As I shared in a previous post, last weekend was my Family Reunion.
It was a wonderful time spent catching up with everyone, seeing how big the
kids were all getting, meeting new babies and the newly married.
We always hold our own church service together on Sunday morning
before we all head home, and this year was no different.
It is one of my favorite parts of the reunion, when I am reminded of the
fact that we are not united merely by genetics , but also by our faith in God.
This year we read passages out of the Psalms, and then sang songs that corresponded to them.
As I was walking around the room, snapping pictures of every one, it occurred to me what a
mixed group we have. My mother had 7 children, and they are a “yours/mine/ours” mix.
Then each of her children had children, and we ended up with our own “yours/mine/ours” mixtures.
There are people here who have no common bloodline at all, and yet they are family.
There are some that were officially adopted in, and some that have unofficially become a part of us.
And the love is shared by one and all..
We share in each other’s tears..
We also share much laughter together -
We gain wisdom from those that are older,
And gain energy from the younger-
Family is something that comes from the heart, not the genes.
It is a group of people who choose to live and love and grow old together,
Unified in spirit – held together with love.
Yes, many of us have come from fractured homes -
But they say that once a broken bone heals, it is stronger than before.
That is what I call family..
“We love each other because he loved us first.” 1 John 4:19

What an awesome post! Family really means so much and we are so fortunate to be a part of a family such as ours – so many do not have such a foundation in their lives.

I ~LOVE ~ this post! My husband has 4 children. A sister in law that he raised since she was about 7 (after her mother died) he had two boys of his own and adopted a baby girl when she was a few days old. I have two daughters, so we have a mix of kids and grands. I love the words you used and they will be duplicated…”Family is something that comes from the heart, not the genes.” Thank you for sharing the beautiful pics of your family and the beautiful words that brought more gratefulness to my heart than I had before.
