Confessions..
I decided I needed to bare my soul about a few more things
after my much needed ‘painted wood manifesto’ of last week.
What can I say, you guys are just so easy to confess things to..:)
You have heard me mention many times that I am a sucker for advertisement by blogger.
When I see/read a blogger I love talking about something they have and like,
I must have one too.. It all started with Pioneer Woman and her Nikon Camera.
Guess what kind I have?
Recently I purchased a ‘curling stick’ after reading about Layla from The Lettered Cottage
using one on her hair. Well, Layla got me again when she was looking for new shoes.
She said many of her readers recommended RocketDogs…
What is this? I had never heard of such things!
Then again, I don’t get out much when it comes to shoes.
Confession #1 – I have bunions.
Ugly, yucky, bunions.
Did I just lose a few of you?
Anyway, because of this it is hard to find shoes that don’t
A: Cause me to scream in pain with every step
or
B: Contribute greatly to bunion production
So I am often stuck with boring shoes.
When I go shopping with my friend Retta I am reminded of my ‘naive’ shoe status.
She looks at shoes in every store.. and I am certain she has at least 1,432 pair sitting at
home waiting for her. But every time we go shopping,
she spies a pair of black sandals that she MUST have.
Every time.. If you put all of her black sandals in a line they would cross the state of Texas..
Retta is a shoe hussy.. she shoes around shamelessly..
And every one of them has a 7 inch bunion producing heel.. And she has no bunions.. life is not fair.
Rocket Dogs..
As soon as I heard of them I headed over to their website. And I ordered a pair..
And I don’t know if it is the Rocket part or the Dog part – but they have room for my bunions..
In fact, I believe I could wear them across the entire state of Texas.. as I follow Retta’s shoes.
And you know what else??
They are stylish!! And even have a tiny heel!
Which I love, because as everyone knows, for every inch of heel you loose 10 pounds.
Which means when Retta wears those 7 inch heels she looks 70 pounds thinner than me..
I hate her..
Confession #2
I hate blue..
I have written a blog post regarding this anomoly before, but it was back when only 25 people
read my blog.. Now there are at least 30 of you so I felt I should address it again.
I realize that I may be the only person in the world that doesn’t rank ‘blue’ amongst their
favorite colors. It used to be my favorite. Until the 80′s ended.
I had used blue to death. Everything I owned was blue.. or mauve.
Bedding, carpet, dishes, towels, clothing, countertops, cabinets, cars, eye shadow, nail polish…
you name it, it was blue. In the 90′s I began going out behind blues back with greens and reds.
In the last 2 years I have begun to allow blue back into my home again.
I make it behave, and only allow touches of it, but I will say it is beginning to win me over again.
I have blue in my living room, and as I was working on my Fantle last week (you know, Fall+Mantle)
I decided that I needed to paint the accent wall behind it. I choose to go with a light gray (or grey).
After I purchased my paint and began putting it on the wall, I quickly realized it was not going to work.
It was way to light, and looked somewhat like a baby blue when it dried.
I know it was seriously a silver/gray/grey when I bought it…I don’t know what happened.
So I decided to change the color myself, to make it a darker gray/grey.
(Somebody please tell me the proper way to spell that)
I bought a small bottle of black craft paint and poured some of into the gray/grey.
It didn’t make a lot of difference. So I added more.. still not much change.
So I dumped the entire bottle in..then I painted the wall.. this is what I now have.
No really – that is gray/grey….
My husband looked at it in the paint can and said – wow, you are going with that battleship gray?
(He doesn’t know how to spell it either)
And then he saw it on the wall and told me he was glad I decided to go with blue..
Did I mention I am not overly fond of blue?
Now I have a whole wall of it.. behind my Fantle.
It is growing on me…
Confession #3
I inadvertently poisoned my grandson..
Let me explain.
I had my 5 year old grandson and his 1 year old sister overnight last week while my daughter and her
husband were away. I was so excited to have the time with them, and had my daughter write out some
details so that I would do everything right… my grandaughter has some food allergies.
So Friday morning I made them breakfast.
Here is Lydia eating breakfast..
I promise there were no drugs involved, nor is she possessed.. just active..
There was also no gluten, as she is on a gluten free diet.
Here is Matthias with his breakfast.. see how happy he was?
20 minutes later he was projectile vomiting across the entire span of our family room….
See the toast on his plate? Gluten…
In my defense, my daughter didn’t tell me to go gluten free with him..
She said he had seemed to be doing ok with it.. up until G-ma’s toast of wrath…
Poor little guy!
I put him on the couch while I cleaned and kept Lydia and the dog out of the vomit.
I turned on the TV to PBS, thinking there should be something semi-appropriate for him to watch.
When I came back into the room, he was watching the TV with a glazed look on his face, holding
his vomit bowl. What was he watching? Sit and Be Fit….. you know, exercise for seniors?
I am surprised he wasn’t throwing up again..
So, for the first time in a few years my husband and I rented a steam cleaner today..
This is what he is doing as I am writing this post.
Poor guy – his shoes happened to be right in the line of fire of the projectile vomit.
I washed them for him………
He bought a new pair just before we got the steam cleaner…I have to admit I giggled inside just a bit..
And Jessy – don’t you even think about offering to pay for any of that..
I wouldn’t care if he vomited all over every thing we own -
I would rather have my grandkids in my life than any of our ‘things’..
And I guess that is my last confession for today..

Well, girl, I just discovered your blog via some party linky or other and have to say I believe we were twins separated at birth. Ok, well, not really because you’re like thin and blond, but other than that, I think we’d be thick as thieves.
Love your humor. I will be a first time gramma in April, and I hope to be poisoning my grandkid with as much humor as you.
And I forgive you for hating blue. Just sayin’.

Both spellings of gray/grey are correct which totally annoys me. We need to revamp the English language, so it follows neat and tidy rules! Theater/theatre is another one.
I taught the “Sit and be Fit” lady’s grandson! Oh, yes, yes, I did. Doesn’t that make me cool?

This is the funniest post. I just want you to know that I have never liked blue and I still don’t. I make no apologies. Orange is my favorite color and I’ve decorated with it – and worn it – for years. I took a lot of abuse from my friends for that. Now it’s popular – I was a trend setter. hehehe I’m sorry about your grandson. At least he eats. My granddaughter is a very picky eater. Now I’m going to look at those Rocket Dogs.

I was so laughing, and I am so sorry! I am a new fan, but omg I am a big fan now!
Remember that rule we learned in school, I before E except after C? Well I am pissed because we were lied too! My spell check is always correcting me, amazing how many words don’t follow that rule! lol

I really giggled reading your post. You are so down to earth, and this makes me like your blog. I love those shoes you ordered. They are just darling. I want some now. I’m sorry your grandson got sick, but don’t worry, next time you will know. I can tell you are a super grandma, and your grandchildren love you.

I think this week you were just trying to get us to laugh so hard that it hurt…but it sounds like we are a like when it comes to shoes…find a great pair and wear the hell out of them, and then instead of replacing, repair them….

This post was so funny. I have plantar fascitis and shopping for shoes is painful in more ways than one, takes lots of time, too. We have a shoe store down here called DSW and they carry Rocket Dogs, great prices and let’s you try them out first, which is nice versus buying and they don’t fit and shipping them back. Your pair is so cute! Great for winter. The grand kids are adorable, but pretty scary for you. Oh the horrors of blues and burgundy back in the days of country decorating!

Grey is the British spelling (as is theatre) while gray is the American spelling. When America was becoming itself separate from Britain, spellings of words were changed to create a new “American language.”

You. Hate. Blue……come on now, I know you’re just joshin’! Okay I will admit to some serious abhorance of “country blue” but to just throw all those beautiful shades in together? …maybe it’s more of those pesky hormones. They make you do and say crazy things right? Oh well I still think you are adorable. And just so you know I once fed my son someting that was NOT apple juice as I was led to believe and felt terrible mortified for quite a long time. He is now a healthy 23 year old trying to become a NAVY SEAL…no harm done….I think:)
And thanks for the shoe info…..I am gonna check them out ’cause girl those are Cute!!! Thanks for makin’ the night end on some laughter!

Follow often, comment rarely, but the blue thing…one of my rants! My theory is that blue is the only color men can see! Their mothers teach them this. When I was married, it had to be everywhere. I have been experiencing blue freedom for longer now than I was married. Good riddance to both of them
Thanks for your laughter spot in my day.

Loved this post! And it’s refreshing to know that I’m not the only Grandma who’s not eligible for the “Grandma of the Year” award this year! I treated one of my grandsons to to breakfast at the beach, and as luck would have it he almost WAS breakfast at the beach! While wading in shallow water, a small blacktip shark shot out of nowhere at him, then turned and darted back into the seaweed. Think my daughter will ever let me take him to breakfast again?

I know, the gray/grey thing gets me everytime too! Well, you cracked me up again with your great humor ;D
I’m sorry about your grandson, but life happens and his breakfast looked so good as I’m not allowing myself bread at all right now. I used to eat whatever and stayed like a rail…Ugh, I look at something and gain a lb anymore.
I’m with you on the blue thing…I got my fix on it back in the late 80″s ~country blue~ Now I’m going to do some projectile vomiting ;0 We bought a house a couple of yrs ago and have since done some remodeling except for the basement and our master bath that should start tomorrow (THANK GOD) The master bath part (not basement) any who…There was blue everywhere as the woman was a blue freak! The house was only built in 98, but she loved her some COUNTRY BLUE….Excuse me ~projectile vomiting again~ K, I’m back
However, the color behind your fantle is a lovely gray/grey;)

I love you!! (In a no stalking, you crack me up and make my day kind of way)!!
Rocket Dogs are THE BOMB!! They have he cutest shoes and they’re way comfortable! Glad you found something that keep your bunions company.
It’s ok to “dislike” a color. I’m not overly fond of gray or neutrals in decorating, but I’m a white shirt addict. I am drawn (like a zombie to fresh meat) to white blouses/shirts. It’s pathetic.
And poison is kind of harsh. Let’s just say you inadvertently caused a momentary disruption in their digestive functions.
Please keep up your wonderfully witty and rib tickling posts!!
And it’s gray here in the USA and grey in the UK.
Toodles,
Teresa
