Not Your G-Ma’s Wardrobe
Have you ever heard of the website Polyvore?
I first heard about it over on Pinterest, which has quickly become one
of my favorite hang-out spots. I have a folder there on fashion where I put pictures
of clothes, accessories, shoes, etc. that I like. I started noticing these pictures
on there that showed all of the components of an outfit minus the model.
I kind of liked the fact that there is no model because sometimes I get hung up in thinking
the outfit is cute but I am not 6 feet tall and 95 pounds, would it look as good on me?
Anyway, at Polyvore you can build your own outfits from a selection of pieces
that actually link to the stores you can order them from.
I love it as a way to keep track of either new things I would like to put
together, or pictures that represent things I already have that I could
combine in new and different ways.
I was looking through some of the combo’s and thinking about my upcoming
trip to Tennessee and I had a great idea! I have been doing this Not Your G-Ma’s Wardrobe
post every week for about a year now, so I have a huge backlog of pictures of me in different
outfits I already own. It occurred to me that I could use those pictures to
help determine my wardrobe for the trip. Because I am a planner…
Are you the kind of person that just throws a bunch of clothes into a bag
the night before you leave, or are you like me? I like to figure out what I am wearing
each day, and try to double up on clothes to reduce space in my luggage. Because
I only take a carry on when I travel…I have a huge fear of my bags going where I am not…
It is not totally unprovoked, it happened once.
The airlines gave me a “Travelers Essentials Kit” which it turns out does not
live up to its name. Unless, of course, all I needed to do was brush my teeth,
shave my legs, and wear nothing but a small white t-shirt for the rest of my life…
Anyway… I put together a weeks worth of outfits from some of my old pictures.
I am so excited about this! What a fun way to figure out what I am going to
wear on my trip! And also make sure I pack everything I will need!
I also put together a little ‘collage’ of accesories to bring to Nashville,
Including, naturally, my Nashville purse..
I know – I am ridiculously giddy over something that really isn’t a big deal
in the whole scope of life, the universe, and planetary alignment..
But hey, it is the little things in life that really bring joy-right?
Like chocolate, coffee with cream, a new purse, and being called Grandma..
And Zombie movies of course.
I think I will play around with this idea, and maybe organize my pictures in such a way
that would make them more easily accessible and categorized.
Maybe I can even make this into an iPhone App….. oh the possibilities….

That is a GREAT idea!! We’re going out of town this weekend and I am still anxious about what I will pack!
Now, to get my husband on board with photographing all the outfit combinations in my closet…

Great and fun idea! And sometimes it IS the little fun things that bring the most joy. But can I make one suggestion? Include at least one red or brightly colored item into your travel mix.

What an absolutely Fabulous Idea! But since I only have 2 pair of capris that fit and 3 t-shirts, these no need for this in my home. I just put on the same things everyday~~~I’m sure the employees at the office just LOVE when I walk in the door
