Flea Market Frenzy
I talked my husband into going with me to a Flea Market today that was about an hour from our home.
We got up early and stopped to get cash and Starbucks - Pumpkin Spice – yumm!
My husband was laughing at me as soon as we arrived. I started ohhhing and ahhhhing before I
even got out of the car. There is just something about a flea market! I kind of go through a temporary
insanity.. I just can’t focus on anything, I am trying to see everything at once and scoop up the
good deals before someone else gets them. I missed out on two things today that I was going to go
back for.. next time I will show no mercy.
I think one of the reasons I like Flea Markets is that there are usually things I can afford.
Cute things.Things with meaning behind them.
And I came home with a few of those today.. although I had to beat a couple of ladies up to get them..
The long blue thing with numbers in the background is some kind of a metal tool box.
My husband had to walk around the place with that under his arm.
This market was in an old Grange Hall and was jam packed with women,
which he kept bumping in to. Don’t feel to sorry for him.. believe me he enjoyed it..
He would stand and chat with the ladies, telling them he was just along to carry everything.
While he did that I was running around from item to item, like a kid in a candy store.
Every time I would buy something I pulled a wad of cash out of my jeans pocket, and invariably
dropped some money on the ground. Which he would them scoop up and hand back to me – grinning,
as I ran off to takle the next little old lady blocking my way.
See the little metal tags on the silver buckets? I got those buckets from Targets $1 racks, and have been
wanting tags to put on them. I was looking through the stack trying to find the letters to spell FALL,
then I tried HOME, then ABC, without any luck. Shoppers before me had taken
all of the good letters…women with attitudes were crowding around me and my husband was in
the background balancing a metal box, window, and 2 starbucks cups. So I just grabbed 3 letters I liked
and called it good. It occurred to me when I got home that I wasn’t going to make a lot of words without
a single vowel..any ideas on how to arrange C, D, and W to make a word? I would even take a foreign one..
The little lantern was $10 so I snagged it. I don’t know what it is about lanterns -I’m a sucker for them.
I was so excited to find a booth with Annie Sloan Chalk paint!!
Some of you may remember I have done a couple of projects with it.
I had to order it online for these projects, now I can get it an hour away from home!
My husband was overjoyed at the news..
I got a sample of the Duck Egg Blue, and the Clear Wax – can’t wait to try them out!
Did you notice how well the blue goes with my new metal tool box?
They also gave me a color card that has the actual paint on it – I am so excited!
I know – doesn’t take much does it!
I snatched up this little vintage step ladder. I have been wanting one for awhile!
I had planned on repainting it, but the red goes really well in my kitchen dining area so I may keep it.
This is another one of those things that my husband just doesn’t get –
why would I want an old ladder in the house??
Last of all, I paid $18 for this old chippy window. That really gave my husband a chuckle!
He said growing up his neighbors had a whole barn full of these that no one wanted.
Of course, that makes me wonder what I am getting rid of today that someone will pay a large amount
of money for in the future..I can’t think about that to much or I will start saving everything.
Then I will end up being featured on the reality show Hoarders.
I seriously have a fear of someone submitting my name to the producers of some reality show..

Well, besides the fact that I too LOVE a good flea market, have fallen in love with your little red ladder, I also would use those pails with letters for $$$ 1. For (C) Coffee $, 2. For (D) Donut $, and 3. For (W) Whatever else I wanted to buy $. Fun Times:)

I have an old chippy white window that has six panes. I have my daughters individual pics, a pic of them together, and a pic of all of us together in the panes. I have it above a great shelf I had my husband build me. It is my favorite wall in my house. I love your ladder! I would totally leave it red. I love pops of red.

Sigh. I should have stowed away in your trunk.
Good finds! I need to check out getting samples of the chalk paint. That Duck Egg looks perfect for accents in our living room.
I have a couple of chippy windows that I backed with fabric. It’s a great way to add some color to a room!

I laughed when I read this! I too ask my husband to go with me to flea markets, auctions and other sale. He knows it is to carry my “crap” and take it to the truck. I have a window frame I am working on now and two small ladders like yours. I am like a kid in a candy shop at these sales. And every day I pray that my kids don’t turn my name into Hoarders.

I am jealous of your old window. I have been searching my area for ages with no luck so in desperation I found a cute 4 pane wood window at our big box hardware store(Menards) for $12. I’m in the process of trying to make it look “aged” and I think my hubby thinks I’ve gone bonkers. I’m hoping it looks great on my mantel!

My husband isn’t allowed to go to these things with me! He wisely stays away from my wild-eyed shopping frenzies at such wondrous places as flea markets. Sometimes it’s better than…dare I say it?… Christmas!
Funny, though, I’m not a Shabby Chic kind of girl, but I just love to read your posts! We seem to think alike. I know, that could be dangerous! “You mean there’s more than ONE of you?” Yikes!
My prayers are with you during your job transition time

Hi Sharyl, I am still laughing at this post…hee. I love your flea market style. I wish my hubby would “get it”. Your finds are so cute. I love love old window frames and ladders, too. I would hang the window frame on your wall as is. It definitely belongs with your blues and whites. Ciao, Deb

Ok, so I am thinking you have just described a perfect day. A wad of cash, stopping at starbucks, a grange flea market, some great finds and most of all a husband who might not totally get it but comes along to spend time with you doing something you love. You are one lucky lady! Can’t wait to see what you do with your finds.

With a little black paint (or sharpie) your ‘c’ could become an ‘o’…then turn the ‘d’ upside down or the ‘w’ upside down…..could spell pow, mop, dow, wop, mod…not a whole lot of options…but at least it’s a word!
