After 33 Years..

How does a person measure 33 years?

33 years takes you from:

Teen romance to the empty nest…

33 years takes you from:

Awkwardness and acne, to hot flashes and bifocals…

From prom dates and bucket seats
to grocery stores and mini vans…
I was 17 when I met my husband, and 18 when we got married.
We are not the same people that we were 33 years ago –

And I am so glad……

We have discovered a depth of love that far exceeds
the initial romance, courtship, and honeymoon years.
I can tell you what I don’t measure after 33 years:

Hair Color…
Haven’t you heard? Gray is the new black…
Expensive Gifts…

We love coupons and craigslist…

Flowers…

Honestly – I get just as excited when he takes out the trash…

Poetry and Passionate Letters…

This man signs over his paychecks to me every week…
Now that, my friends,is commitment

Don’t get me wrong – I am not saying there is no romance after 33 years.

I am just saying that romance comes in a different package-

It is wrapped up in:

kindness, honesty, family, integrity, transparency, gentleness

Romance has gray hair and wrinkles… and kills big, black spiders :)

After 33 years:

I still feel my heart flutter when he looks at me…
I still love it when he holds my hand…
And I still want to be my very best for him –

And, even after 33 years, I still want to look my very best for him.
I love to see his eyes light up when he looks at me…
And honestly – I feel better about myself when I know I look my best.

And looking my best has always included makeup.
I have never been a “go without makeup” type of gal…
I have always used makeup as a tool and my face as a palette…
So when COVERGIRL asked me if I would try out their new product,
COVERGIRL LashPerfection™ Mascara,  I said yes!

I have used COVERGIRL products many times over the

years, so I knew I would be getting a good product.

Plus, the fact that I had a wedding anniversary

coming up seemed a perfect time to try it!

You may want to remove small children

from the area before you scroll down…

Scary picture alert.

The left side is me without eye makeup – the right side is me wearing
COVERGIRL LashPerfection Mascara.

My eyelashes are basically non-existent without the addition of mascara.
COVERGIRL LashPerfection Mascara has a nice, thick brush and goes on easily,
but I have to tell you, my favorite thing about this

product is the way it comes off.

I have been wearing waterproof mascara for several years now.

My eyes often water from allergies and

I don’t enjoy black circles and smudging.

The sample I received from COVERGIRL was not waterproof,

and yet it did not run or smudge at all.

And, after years of having to rub my eyes to get the waterproof

mascara off every night, it was a nice surprise

to see how easy the COVERGIRL LashPerfection mascara was to remove!

And that means less wrinkling

of that tender under-eye  area –

and you know I am all for less wrinkles!

It was definitely a go for my anniversary!

Especially just in case I got teary-eyed. :)

So – I put on my little black dress, dolled up my face with makeup,
and waited for my husband to get home from work…

Anticipation…

And my heart still flutters…

Even after 33 years…

Congrats on 33 years together! You don’t look your age. And I’ve probably said it before, but you look like a cross betw/ a young Bette Midler and Layla Palmer’s sister. The new Covergirl product sounds great. Sounds like it would work well for my daughter, the soccer player.

Thank you so much! And wouldn’t it be fun to be Layla’s sister!!

I felt more confident when I was allowed to wear makeup at 14 and I have never looked back. I always feel naked without it!

Happy Anniversary! I hope you have 33 more wonderful years together! Or even 50! :)

I love CoverGirl products too. I wear hard contacts and it’s hard to find a mascara that doesn’t somehow get in my eyes and irritate them. CoverGirl works great!

    Have a great day!

I don’t know if I’ve ever used makeup to add confidence (power from within ladies!), but I do love having long, dark sexy lashes to flash “the look” at my super cute hubs!

Congrats on the 33 years – you’re catching up to us!! And yes, we both got the gene that dictates to the brain “you must never, ever cease wearing make-up”. It’s like wearing make-up is next to godliness or something. Like Carolynne says, “I’m wearing my scare-face”.

That was a beautifully well said post on your Love!! Congrats on 33 years!!
Well, I always use makeup for extra confidence….don’t go anywhere without it and if I accidentally get out the door, I am horrified. However, I have been an MC at a few events where I was in character…with added makeup…and it helped me feel the part. : ) Yes, Sharyl I like drama too!!

    Sharyl,

Congrats on 33 years! My hubby and I met when I was 17 also and he was 15! Five years later we married and have been together for 40 years! This past summer I decided to try out for our church musical – The Sound of Music, and NO, I was not Maria!!! I got to be one of the main nuns! I had never been in a play before, but when I’ve got the “spackle” on I have confidence and many people are surprised when I tell them how old I am. Let’s see how long I can keep that up!!!!

Awwww. :) That just tugged at my heart & brought a tear to my eye. Hubs and I have only been married for 8 years but it seems my love just keeps growing for him.

Thanks for the mascara tip…I’ve been having a dickens of a time finding a waterproof that is actually waterproof (NEVER); going to pick up some of the CG stuff tomorrow.

Keep on keepin’ on Sharyl! :)

Congratulations on your annuversary. You are a blessed couple.

Now for the entry…..I always feel so much better with make-up as I have pepper & salt hair and a pale complexion, so without color on my face I look and feel all washed out. I will refresh my lipstick 4 or 5 times a day.

What a beautiful post! Congratulations on 33 years!! What a special milestone to celebrate as a couple. I was 18 when I married my husband (he was 20) and I feel like over the past 10 years we have grown together and I’m so thankful for our young start.
Thank you for sharing. You look FABULOUS in that black, expectantly awaiting your groom:-)

Happy Anniversary. Make-up has always given me the confidence to face the world. I have gone out without make-up but not since I have gotten older, I am 48. I think everyone can use a little help. My husband and I have been married for almost 22 years and he is truly a part of me in February I donated a kidney to him. Thanks for all the clothing tips.

I’ve been wearing make up since I was a teen and would never go back. No matter what I may be wearing, I like to have my make up on and of course have my hair fixed. Our crown is our glory! I too was married at 18 and we were married for 23 yrs. Unfortunately, we have been divorced for several yrs, but I have learned from that time in my life. I’ve been remaried for 5 yrs and I know how to love better from the mistakes I made before. I’ve learned to shut my mouth when needed! Will this matter tomorrow? Being critical hurts everyone around you :( Listen before you speak (Apparantly, I have a big mouth!) Now, you are all thinking…Man, I would have divorced that bitty too! Life is good and you are right, Sharyl, we should try to look our best and feel better about ourselves and for our spouse. I love what you said about your marriage and the love you have for your honey ;D Congratulations on the marker of your love ~33~ WOW! You are a *Be*You*T*Ful* Lady! CG mascara does ROCK! To Julianne (I may get in trouble with CG) but, Revlon has a wonderful colorstay lip color with gloss that last for long hours and I love it!

After returning to the country from one year in Europe, I had to look for a job. I hadn’t worn make up while overseas but I decided to put on my professional face and head with confidence into those job interviews. I was lucky enough to find a temporary placement that lead to a permanent job in my field.
