Inspired to Bless..

I have to confess – I am an electronic junkie.

I love being able to be in touch with my friends and family via email, facebook, twitter, and texting.

In fact, if I am being honest, I would rather text than make a phone call..

There is something about that instant connetion that I love – I can think of some question and have

a response to it all within seconds. I can say what I am thinking in the moment and share it in real time.

But, I must also admit, sometimes that is not the best way to go about it.

Sometimes it is better that I not say the first thing that pops into my head.. sometimes I wish there was

an ‘retrieve’ option on a text message, and have I have used the ‘delete status’ option on facebook before.

I find myself looking at this electronic ‘relationship’ method more when I am around my Mother,

and other people of her generation. People who still pick up the phone and call someone.

And when I say pick up the phone, I am talking about a land line, not a cell phone.

How strange is it that we have come to the

place and time that we must quantify what type of phone we are referring too?

My Mother is 91, and she still pays her bills by check, puts a stamp on it, and mails it in.

I can’t even remember the last time I have done that.

All of my bills are paid either online or over the phone.

My Mother even sends letters and cards to people…….on a weekly basis..

I also cannot remember the last time I have done that either..

Sometimes I find myself feeling sorry for those people that are not ‘tech savvy’..

And yet – I can remember the times I have received a letter or card in the mail. The excitement and

anticipation when I open it up. Discovering that someone actually took time and thought of me, and then

took even more time to sit down and tell me that. The encouragement I feel as I keep that card out where

I can see it. And as I see it, I remember the thought, love, and care that it represents.

Maybe the ones I should feel sorry for are those of us that feel like we can’t set aside time enough

in our day to sit down for 10 minutes and write out a note of encouragement – by hand – on real paper.

Last month, as I was reading a post from (In)courage, I decided to accept their challenge to

set a card-giving goal for myself this year. I want to send a card sometimes to let

someone know they are important to me, rather than just putting a smiley face at the end of a text.. ;-)

DaySpring sent me some cards to use for that goal.

If you want to set a goal you have a chance to get some too.

Inspired Deals

Go and share your card sending goal in the comments and you might recieve a free packet of cards

to get you started. And I absolutely love their selection of cards!

I am planning on sending one to my Mom, and hope it will brighten her day.

I have a couple of other ladies in mind, but I don’t want to spoil the surprise in case they

are reading this.. There is also a gal that I work with that just had a birthday last week.

We see each other in the halls and say hello. I know our friendship is important to both of us,

but the busy work week seems to keep us from saying that very often.. I want to remedy that..

Dayspring is also going to give away one $20 coupon to their online store to one of my readers!

DaySpring.com

Just leave a comment letting me know what you would love to get from their online store

and you will be entered into the drawing! I will choose a winner in week.

You will find that they have many great things to choose from!

The card below is one of my favorites..

I love this- it says “Some people make the world a better place simply by being in it”

I want to become one of those people..

Although Dayspring sent me these cards to review,

all the opinions and comments in this review are mine.

I, too, like to send cards. This year, I didn’t have time to write my traditional Christmas letter. Instead, I wrote short notes to friends. I may not go back to my form letter next year. If I won, I would buy some cards from the hope and encouragement section. Thanks for the chance to win.

I’m terrible about sending cards. I wonder if my handwriting has gotten so bad because I rarely write anything- it’s all done on the computer now.
I love the friendship birds! Thanks for a great giveaway! :)

This is SO how I feel, not to mention the fact that I LOVE paper and cards, and design, and photos and calligraphy… To me, writing a letter or even sending a card is such a lost tradition, it’s painful. I make the effort to send birthday cards and I still send Christmas cards. This year I did one of the photo cards, just to let people who are distant know what we look like and what we do during the year. I wish paper and writing it would come back and not get filed away in the antiquities folder.

Sharyl, that is an awesome idea. I have cards just lying around waiting for me to put them to good use. Now I just need to set the goal and stick to it. I love that DaySpring has a club you can join and get free cards and an organizer.

Thank you for sharing this opportunity.
I love sending cards to people who are having a struggle or need some encouragement. I know how much I love to get a card just to let me know someone took the time to think about me.
I usually make my own cards, but these are really cute.
    I will enjoy using them.
    Blessings

I used to send cards on a regular basis–then started full-time employment and don’t make the time anymore. I often jot down a name in church, meaning to send a card…but rarely follow thru…I need to be more intentional. When I receive a note from a friend in the mail, it really makes my day!

Sometimes it’s the smallest act that can bring a ray of sunshine to someone’s life.

    Smiles and sunshine to all!

P.S. I almost forgot–I would probably use the gift certificate to buy a piece of jewelry.

In the past year and a half I have had some health issues and major surgeries. I was astonished at the number of get well cards I received and enjoyed reading them over and over. I was brought to tears that so many took the time to send me a card and many wrote notes inside. I love Dayspring and would get get-well and thinking of you cards! Thanks for the chance!

Wow…what a knock in the brain this post was. THANK YOU! I too am a tech junkie and after reading this, I asked myself how long it had been since I sent someone a card or even wrote a *gasp* letter! So long I couldn’t even pinpoint a date…very sad. Perfect post to bring the 20th century back to the 21st. :)

I would love to pick up some greeting cards and send a couple out each month. I think that would be a good habit to start.

I too love the high tech gagets, they are fun and useful. I do always call instead of texting. I just can’t believe that a text is an instant connection. You have to type it and send it and wait for the person to type back. When you call they answer your questions instantly, isn’t that instant connection?
Anyway, would love to get some cards to send out. I agree that it makes anyones day better when they receive it.

I love the idea of having a “card sending goal” for the year.

That’s a really good idea. The (in)courage post inspired me to be better about teaching my son the beauty and respect of sending hand written thank-you notes for his gifts.

He’s barely 2, but it’s something I really want to make as important as my mother made it with me. :)
