I have always loved the look of Weathervanes.

And I was intrigued with the idea of making my own.

I found one online that kind of had the look I wanted;

I realize that this isn’t a true weather vane because it doesn’t have the arrows and

North, South, etc..  but I couldn’t think of what else to call it. I was going to name this

post ‘Horse On A Stick’, but it just didn’t sound right..

This was from an antique store and I could purchase it for the mere price of $1900.

I declined..

Instead, I grabbed a couple of things from Michaels and Hobby Lobby

to see if I would be able to re-create the look.

I bought an unfinished wooden horse and dowel from Michaels.

I payed around $1.50 for the two of them.

You may remember I put them together in their unfinished state and used

them as the tree topper for my homespun Christmas tree this year.

I found a wooden block at Hobby Lobby for .50 cents.

I then painted all the pieces black.

I had my husband drill a hole in the block after the first coat of paint.

Then I used Gorilla Glue to attach the dowel to the block.

After it was dry, I finished painting it.

I think it looks pretty good!

I was going to look for some little arrows and letters to give it

the look of an actual weathervane, but I grew impatient and just wanted it finished.

Boy, if that isn’t the story of my life!

They had other wooden animals at Michaels. I also got a rooster,

which I think would be really cute done like this too.

Well, there you have it-

Simple – quick

horse on a stick..

Thanks for stopping by!!

The finished product looks like it was photoshopped! Great piece of craftiness. I love how you get your husband involved–bet he doesn’t even realize he’s a crafter. ;o)
