Not Your G-Ma’s Wardrobe
Welcome to another wardrobe post!
I feel as though I owe you an apology.
In last weeks post I mentioned how my word of the year
is Courageous. And my wardrobe this week is not courageous in
the least! I am wearing all of my old favorites, and going very neutral
with colors.. as in – black.. and black..
So today I threw on my leopard jacket that I have not even worn
yet this season just to prove I could be brave!
But before we get to that – here is the rest of the week.
Boots.. big surprise there.
Grey shirt with black vest..
Wow – I am really pushing the fashion envelope here.
Well, I am wearing skinny jeans and my boots with
the big red zipper in the back.. I guess that could be seen as
a little bit edgy for a 50 year old grandma, right?
(Now you respond in agreement… umm K?)
Way out on a limb here people.. grey and black.
And a special guest appearance by Nashville Hair..
Sounds like a lounge act.
My new favorite sweater – love the grey color and the length.
And I don’t believe you have seen this yoga jacket yet.
I bought it during my pain pill induced shopping spree from Kohls.
I love that it has the grey around the neckline that kind of bunches
up when you pull the drawstring. I now own both a yoga jacket
and a pair of yoga pants. They are both immensely comfortable,
which makes me want to consider trying yoga. The only thing is,
any time I have ever watched anyone do yoga, it has reminded me of
one of those horror movies where a bad spirit takes over a persons
body and molds and shapes it into positions no human body could
ever maintain on its own. It seems to me that if God wanted me to be capable
of bringing my foot over the back of my head and wrapping it around my
ear, he would have given me many more joints…..and possibly bigger ears.
Here is my wild and crazy look..
I really do love animal print clothes, I am not sure why I
have not worn them very much this winter. This jacket is old
but I absolutely love it. It is soft and comfy too – almost
like a yoga jacket..
Of course.. these are definitely not yoga pants.
Although, there are times that putting
on my skinny jeans resembles a yoga exercise..
Good news – I am becoming more adjusted to my new glasses,
and decided to include a full picture of me in them this week.
Just kidding – here it is
(Please excuse the wanky-ness of this picture, I had just finished doing the hokey pokey..)
I just needed to get used to seeing myself in them I guess.
I don’t have to wear them all the time,
only for close and far away things….
I guess that sounds like all the time, but it really isn’t.
My team at work have been working on some assessments this past week.
They are really interesting, and are helping us see what our strengths
and weakness’s are, and how we can work best together as a team.
I seriously love things like that – I am very into self-analysis.
I dig it.
But, every time I have taken tests like this, I have disagreed with what they say.
I usually end up cracking up over it when I look back at what I did.
For instance, the one I took back when I worked for the state,
asked the question “Do you have trouble making decisions?”
I had to go ask my friend for her opinion because I wasn’t sure….
Yeah -
Then the was another one I took and the results were mailed to me.
The first thing I saw when I opened the document was the statement:
“Does not take criticism well”
I spent about 20 minutes spouting off to my husband about why that wasn’t
true before it finally dawned on me what I was doing..
Yeah – again…
This assessment is really good – and seems to be right on target.
But, as usual, it messed with my head and I ‘over thought’
several of the questions. And then, at one point I forgot if A
was high and B was low, or it was the other way around…
Here is a picture of one of the questions I struggled with:
Thank goodness I never struggle with problem solving……
I want to leave you with one more thing – I recieved
a comment from one of my readers this week that just cracked me up
and I decided it was too good not to share!
Thanks Judy – for giving me such a laugh
| Sharyl, when you took that plane trip, and got “selected” for screening, you showed a cute picture with a caption something like “what about this woman says terrorist?”….. anyway, the cyberworld was not being kind to me that day, and I wasn’t able to respond. Then when I went back, I couldn’t find that post. But I just. couldn’t. forget. Here’s my theory of the TSA agents’ conversation when they saw you: |
TSA Agent #1: Hey, Bob, remember when that terrorist hid plastic explosives in his shoes?
TSA Agent #2: Sure, why?
TSA Agent #1: I think they’re hiding it in their hair now.
There. Now I’m over it. Sharyl, you make me smile every day.

I love your leopard jacket, Sharyl! What a great piece to wear in the office in place of a sweater during the winter months. I had to laugh at your test results and your reactions. I probably do the same thing, although I’ve only done them just for fun.

Thank you! And I tend to argue even with the tests I have done for fun – I remember there was a “lipstick” test that was going around several years ago. Whatever shape the end of your lipstick was in indicated your personality. I didn’t like what mine said so I started putting on my lipstick differently so it would mold into another shape.. I am such a dork!

Thanks for the post, I am almost forty and I don’t know what I am suppose to wear. I know that might sound crazy but I have found myself looking like my teenage daughter, gross right.. But this gives me good ideas and I look forward to reading more of you blog.

I feel that there is nothing wrong with black and grey. They are a classic combination and you wear them well. I especially love the ruffly vest in the first outfit and the button cuff black sweater in the last one. You find the cutest pieces! I also love the leopard print jacket and applaud you for being courageous enough to wear it. I should be so brave, but I’m not. I’m struggling to wear a patterned scarf to work, for goodness’ sake! I just wore my mocassins that I’ve had for over 20 years–they are the most comfortable shoes I own and so cute, but I’m terrified of being teased about them. Yes, a grown woman terrified that people will tease her. Maybe I should borrow your “courageous” word for myself!

Cute post! Loving the black and gray and the animal prints! Girl, you look like one hot nana!!!! Well, I have three daughters as you know that pretty much keep me in tact on dress code! Ha! Sometimes I do think they go a little over board but for the most part…it’s all good! Recently I was cleaning out my closet getting items bagged up for clothing giveaway at church and my youngest daughter, 25, told me exactly what I needed to GIVE AWAY! ha! Don’t ya just love your children! Hugs and blessings, Cindy

You are so funny and I love love love your jacket. I have to get new glasses too, and I keep putting it off because I’m scared to see myself in them. But you have actually given me something to look forward to, because you look awesome in yours!

Sharyl, I am a 51 year old grandmother of four. I love seeing your outfits because sometimes I struggle with what to wear at this age. I also love your hair. I wish I could explain to my stylist how it is cut. Any ideas? I wish we lived closer because I would love to visit with you in person. I am glad that I found your blog and I follow you by email. Take care.

Sharyl – I’m 51 and also a huge fan of black and gray (which I refer to as pastel black!). I love animal prints too, much to my 20 year old daughter’s dismay.
It’s funny to me that at my age, I am finally feeling attractive for the first time in my life. I have more confidence about my looks and in what I wear. The fifties are fabulous!
You look wonderful in all of your outfits, and those glasses are ADORABLE on you!
