Night Stands And Dollar Store Mirror Chargers –

I have been working on a few Diy projects around the house,

and I am excited to have one finally completed to share with you!

Hey – I am glad to have one finally completed period!!

Some of you may remember I brightened up my Master Bedroom

last summer with new sheets and curtains.

Master Bed makeover

And then I “Wintered” it up a little last November

Winter Bed

I have been using those wrought iron pieces as night stands for several

years now, and was getting tired of them.

I wanted something lower, with storage and a drawer.

I stalked Craigs list for awhile, but couldn’t find what I was looking for.

I finally got some used ones from a friend of mine, $25 for both.

They really are the same, she had painted one and I removed the drawer

from one before taking the picture. They were very close to what I was looking for.

I had thought about painting them white, but all of the furniture in our bedroom

is either black or dark wood. So I decided on a flat black paint.

I didn’t sand the tables before painting them

and my husband assures me

I will regret that.. but I think I have mentioned before that I am a lazy crafter..;-)

I was very happy with the way they turned out!

Here is the one on my husbands side of the bed…

Pretty much packed with stuff huh..

He tends to hit the pillows and fall right asleep.

I am a little more high maintenance..

As you can see by my side!

I was very happy with the tables, but now I wanted something

to go on the wall above them. I was thinking I would like to put

some round mirrors on the wall. Then I remembered they have those

small round ones at the dollar store. I tried to think of what I had that

I could put a mirror on, and I remembered these white wooden

chargers I bought from Pier 1 last summer.

You can still get them – $14

Pier 1 Chargers

I used Dischangers on the back of them so I could hang them on the wall.

I love these things!

Dischanger.com

Then I put a dollar store mirror in the center with some of that

spongy reusable wall strips, and it was perfect!!

I like it!

I do want to replace the lamps, however.

I can’t decide if I want some wall sconces, hanging lights, or different table lamps.

I just know I want something else!

I also need to do something about that window behind the bed.

It really bugs me that the curtain isn’t centered to the bed.

There is basically no where else in our room to put the bed, and the window

is not centered on the wall because we combined two rooms and put in a bathroom.

I may just have to get a larger rod and put another panel on it so I can

at least center the curtain.

My husband, of course, tells me it can’t be done because there is not

another stud to anchor the rod on the wall.

Every time he tells me “can’t be done” it is like I am even more

determined then ever to make it work!

I am open to any suggestions!

Thanks so much for stopping by! And you know I always welcome comments!!

I’m thinking mini chandeliers would be gorgeous! But it might mess with your mirrors (which are gorgeous, too, btw).

I love what you did with the chargers & mirrors. I would extend the rod and add another panel or two; use wall anchors for the rod.

I saw on TV where they hung a curtain across the whole wall, floor to ceiling, wall to wall, in this type of situation. That way you can use other studs than ones just around the window. You could use a rod where you could open the curtains when you want. The new mirrors are a great idea.

I’d hang drapes across the whole wall. They have to be lined or the you will still see the silhouette of the window. But then, where would you hang those uber chic mirrors? ~ Maureen

I have those chargers, too, Sharyl! It’s scary sometimes how much we have in common! : ) Love this idea. I seem to be in the majority ~ I would hang a rod higher up, closer to the ceiling, and do panels across that whole wall. If you work the panels so that you have a split where the mirrors would sit you can leave them in that spot and it will look like they are sitting on the panels {even though the nail is in the wall}.

You guys are seriously the best!! I love the idea of covering the whole wall- and Kathy, I could totally see doing that with the chargers too! My mind is now going 100 miles an hour- LOL!

I agree about raising the drapes and also covering the whole wall. if you hung them with clip on rings you could slide them open when you want. Also you can get by with plain fabric or sheets to lower the cost for all the extra material..i think the idea of hanging 2 blingy chandeliers is awesome…and another project for you to show us on your precious blog.

I just saw on the houzz site….a fancy smanzy version of the draped wall.. But shows the idea….go to houzz, click on ideabook, and then bedroom….the very first picture is room with drapes behind the
    bed…a visual always helps me….:-)

Having just read your post…I was going to say the same thing…I’m in the majority too. Wall to wall curtains…wall sconce lights…I have two if you want them (not even joking) and I too thought about the split in the curtain for your new mirrors…that are really/really nice!!

That curtain would make my OCD go wonky! I love your idea of just adding an extra curtain panel. It would be a quick and easy and cheap solution and look great!

    You room looks lovely, BTW!

I have an option for your curtain problem. I have the same problem frequently with uncentered windows. If your rod can extend even a tad bit more then it doesn’t matter where the anchors are. my husband tells me the same thing about the studs. i decided to hang my curtains by ring clips so that i can have one or two ring clips outside of the anchor. I just pull a few to the ends of the rod before i lay it up on the anchors then clip the curtains up and adjust. I dont know if you want to use ring clios with these particular curtains but I thought I would mention my trick! :) excuse my grammar this morning… i am on my phone!! love the chargers!!!!!

I was going to say cover the whole wall with curtains, but I see someone already had that idea.. great minds!! I’ve seen it on TV too, makes it look like a full wall window.. right? I do wonder about light only coming in part of the wall, does that matter? Do they put black out shades so there is no light? These are the things I ponder.

Love the mirrors. I’ve always wanted to have wall sconces to free up space on the nightstand. I hate having lamps there. Maybe one day in my forever house.

I think the same as the majority, and I would drape the whole wall. I love your charger turned mirror idea, but I think they look a little small in that space, or maybe hung a little too high. If you draped the wall I think hanging mini chandeliers or pendant type lights would look really cool! I love your new bedside tables. Much better scale with your bed! I can’t wait to see what you decide to do!

I was feeling like they were a little too small too – I may need to look for something else for that spot.

I love the chargers, they’re so sweet. I too would put up two more panels and use palstic wall plugs with screws. They work well, I can hang heavy mirrors with wall plugs too.

I have yet to anchor a curtain rod into a stud in the wall. They stay up just fine. Because it is behind your bed, you won’t be pulling on the curtains anyway. Center your rod and add another panel. Done. Your bedroom is really beautiful. Where do you put your stuff? Your real stuff. Not the cute little display you have beside your bed. The really lived in stuff. You have stuff right? Please don’t tell me you are that organized or all is lost for me…

Try using a longer curtain rod above your bed, and let one panel extend from farther from the casing than the other, to give the appearance of a larger and centered window. Be sure to use a heavy enough weight fabric (preferably lined) so the light coming through doesn’t throw off your disguise!

    I enjoy your blog!

Love the mirrors on the chargers. Several others have already mentioned wall plugs, wall anchors, molly bolts, all pretty much the same thing & work beautifully because you can get different sizes depending on the weight of whatever you are hanging. Something I haven’t tried, but keep seeing all over blogland, is using painter’s drop cloths for drapes. I would think they would be heavy enough to not need lining.

I was already following with GFC, & I am now following via LF; also following on Pinterest. Don’t you just love that? I’m so addicted!
