Not Your G-Ma’s Wardrobe
This week the school system in our town is on Spring Break – and the amazing leaders
at the church I work for decided to give the staff 2 days off this week too!
So I have been having a fun day – well, except for the 1 1/2 grocery shopping
excursion to Walmart.. Apparently #1 on the list of the top ten things to do for spring break
is taking the family to Walmart.. I have to admit it is facinating there if
you have no agenda to follow. It just doesn’t get much better than people watching
at The Walmart.. it truly is not for the faint of heart though.
We had a couple of days of snow last week -
Welcome to spring in the Northwest!
But this week I got brave and decided to go out with bare ankles…
These are my favorite cropped/ankle pants and they were just
calling my name.. I bought these cheap canvas shoes at Payless last week
in anticipation of spring/summer. I wore them the day after I purchased them
only to find that they were to tight across the top on my foot. A bigger size would
not help because they would fall off. I was so bummed, but determined to figure
out a way to try and stretch them. I remembered a post I read last year by
Layla at The Lettered Cottage – she had the same problem with a new pair of shoes.
She attempted to stretch the shoes by putting baggies of water inside them and
then putting them in the freezer. The water expands as it freezes,
and hopefully causes the shoe to stretch.
So, there are my shoes next to the Blue Bunny…
It felt a little odd putting them in there.. but I was willing to try!
Here they are out of the freezer with the ice formed around the top of the shoe.
I think it made a little bit of a difference. I am trying to just tough it out with
them until they stretch a little more. I might try filling them with ice cream next
time, and eating it when they are done.. If nothing else that might increase my weight,
which could make my feet fatter, which could serve to stretch the shoes…..
What do you think – is that going too far?
This past week I celebrated my birthday.
I try to hide from it but that dang thing keeps coming around every year!
Our celebration was very low key, but nice.
When I got home from work, my husband had cooked me a nice dinner.
Over 30 years of marriage, and that is the first time he has ever done that!
It was so sweet, and really touched my heart.
It meant more to me than any gift he could have purchased..
He went online and found a recipe by Rachel Ray – shopped and bought
all of the ingredients and then cooked it all from scratch…..
I must admit – I did ask a couple of times who he was and
what he did with my husband
One of my daughters got me a gift card from TJMaxx – my favorite place!
The other got me a cute purse and a scarf -
Isn’t it cute!
A new purse and a new pair of shoes in one week!
Do any of you have any other tips for stretching out shoes?
Please leave a comment if you do – I am willing to try just about anything!
